wish there were a better transfer of this out there… still, this should do fine until someone masters it in hd!

Thanks for the excellent encode, loving the bitrate and the lack of noise reduction. Even the font is great :) If I had to nitpick, the image seems to be overcropped on the sides when compared to niizk’s encode. Was there any reason for this?

there were parts of the movie that had more overscan than others, and I generally try to get rid of overscan throughout the film, so I cropped based on the scenes that had the most overscan. it’s just a pet peeve to have overscan eating at the edges while I’m watching a movie, so I’m willing to sacrifice a few of the top lines to get rid of it.
p.s. I noise reduced the hell out of this encode, which gives you an idea of how terribly noisy the source was. however, all of the grain was in the light areas, and the dark areas were blocky (even on the dvd). I ended up having to add noise to the dark areas and reduce noise in the light areas to balance things out.

Wow, if THIS was noise reduced… Wow… ;) Anyway, great job – and can’t wait for more.

Thank you. I think NitePhire’s gonna be doing most of the work from here on out, so keep rooting him on!
